Umberto Zanetti (Livorno, Italy 1957) Obtained his Master Degree in Civil Engineering at the Politecnico in Milan with a thesis on Technique of Restoration of Monuments. He subsequently attended and participated in several seminars concerning modular and industrialized design such as "Designing the Off-Site Rebuild 2018" and "Off-Site Academy Rebuild 2019". Registered at the Milan Order of Engineers n° A26801 Registered at the Register of Swiss Architects REG A n° REG/2022/2457 Resident in Milan where in 1992 he founded his own studio - ZDA Zanetti Design Architettura - dedicated to architectural, interior, industrial and graphic design. Zanetti has designed and carried out various projects in Italy and abroad (U.S.A, France, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia) including residential buildings, retail outlets and offices. His work in the area of industrial design includes a collection of furnishings designed for Unifor, Nero3. In addition to a research conducted with Plastic Design on reusing recycled plastic materials for the production of accessories for the “Riciclo” office that was invited to the “Remade in Italy” exhibition in Milan and Shanghai. Related to cultural projects, he managed, designed and coordinated several exhibitions while conceiving as well the exhibitions’s graphics. We can count among them: -“MOCKBA XXI” at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow and at the Triennale in Milan. -“Gabriele Basilico - Moscou Verticale” exhibition at the Citè de l’Architecture in Paris as well as at the Spazio Oberdan in Milan and and in the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow. -“Gabriele Basilico Bord de Mer” exhibition at the Casa della Fotografia - Villa Pignatelli in Naples. -“Moscow , Factories of Utopia” at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow. In 2019 he was co-curator of the Cuba Pavilion at the XXII Triennale of Milan and curator of the seminar “Habana 500”, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Cuban capital. He has participated in numerous conferences on his works at the Politecnico, Domus Academy, Urban Center and the Triennale in Milan. At the UIA - XXIII World Congress of Architecture - in Turin, he discussed the development of the city of Moscow and contemporary Russian architecture. He held several lectures in numerous places such as: Paris at the Citè de l’Architecture, at the “IIC-Istituto Italiano di Cultura”, at the “IUAV” in Venice, and at the “Association Maison Blanche” in La Chaux de Fonds Switzerland. As well as at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow, at the MAXXI Museum in Rome and at the FAC - Fabrica del Arte Cubano in Havana. Specifically with regard to the themes of constructive innovation modular design and DMFA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) he held conferences in Madrid "Codeveloped Construction", in Brescia "Designing off-Site - Architecture, integrated design and prefabrication" and in Riva del Garda "Decarbonizing Construction". He is currently engaged in the design of the new residential complex “UP TOWN” in the Cascina Merlata area of Milan, and in designing private residences, Social Housing, offices, low-cost hotels as well as developing several prefabricated design projects in different countries including Switzerland and Norway. He actively participates in the Est Lab of the Politecnico in Milan, on research topics relating to architecture and the urban development of East European Countries. Recent projects in St. Petersburg and Moscow were selected for the National Award In/Arch Italian Architects in the World 2014 and for the Gold Medal Italian Architecture of 2015 (finalist) The project "UP TOWN" won the competition "La Ceramica e il Progetto" 2019 - residential category, by Confindustria Ceramica. The latest publications regard special issues of the ‘Area’ magazine dedicated to the cities of Moscow, Havana, Buenos Aires and a Moscow contemporary architectural guide.
